Irrespective of who we are: all of us are playing for someone\u2019s approval.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before whom are you living your life, whom do you want to approve what you do and how you live? For some people, it is themselves. They want their own approval. For nearly all people, their dads must approve and also their mothers. Others are playing for the crowds \u2013 for glory and fame. What would be for you the ultimate form of approval?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\nhis book \u201cFor An Audience of One\u201d, RT Kendall tells a story about a young\nprodigy, a pianist, that gave his concert at the Royal Festive Hall in London.\nHis reputation preceded him, and the concert was sold out on the first day. His\nbrilliance exceeded expectancy. At the end of the concert, the audience stood\nup and wildly cheered and shouted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nyoung pianist bowed and hurried off stage. The audience begged him to come\nback. The stage manager prompted him to go: \u201cThey are yelling for you!\u201d But the\nyoung man wasn\u2019t moving. He peered through a crack in the curtain. He just\nsaid: \u201cI cannot go out there.\u201d The manager was dumbfounded. \u201cLook, son, the\nwhole audience is on their feet.\u201d The boy continued to look \u2013 and suddenly he\nsaw him: an old man. No said the boy: \u201cNot all of them are on their feet. There\nis one old man in the back that is not standing.\u201d The stage manager asked: \u201cWho\ncares about one old man?\u201d The boy answered: \u201cI care. That\u2019s my teacher. When he\nstands, I can take that bow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nmusician knew in his heart that even if two thousand people are applauding, but\nhis teacher is not applauding, nothing matters. He was looking for the approval\nof his mentor, his teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\nwas playing for an audience of one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who must be in your audience? For whom are you making music?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
